Meet Elizabeth Riotte, Vice President – Deputy General Counsel & Assistant Corporate Secretary at AVANGRID!

Liz is many things: a corporate leader, a prominent woman-in-law, a working mother of two young daughters. As the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Maine Women’s Lobby Education Fund, Liz has dedicated herself to engaging women and girls in civic action and encouraging them to be leaders on the issues that matter in their own lives. In these ways, and so many others, Liz is a powerful advocate for gender equity and for women’s voices both in and outside the workplace.

The MWL Education Fund is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that works to make civic life and public policy more visible to women and girls by teaching, empowering, growing people’s skills and creating confidence. The Ed Fund believes democracy is a community affair, and that a democracy that is for the people should be inclusive and equitable and should look like the people. Yet, as Executive Director Destie Hohman Sprague emphasizes, democracy only works if everyone shows up – and we can only show up if we know how to show up. Liz knows this firsthand, which is why she nominated MWL Education Fund for a #AVANgives grant.

Through events like the annual Girls’ Day at the Statehouse, the Education Fund’s work lives into the values of the UN’s Day of the Girl (recently observed on October 11th!) and continues the path towards a more equal future blazed by those who came before, like the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

The MWL Education Fund inspires girls to set high goals, to #BeBold in shaping their worlds, and to be in those places “where decisions are being made” – because they have both the right to be there and the expectation that they should be there.
