Celebrating Global Day of the Engineer

Share

Every year, on April 3rd, the world gets to celebrate the countless women and men who dedicate their lives to developing economical solutions to technical problems. Look at engineering as the middle man between scientific discoveries and the materials we get to use in order to meet all of our needs. Today is a great way to bring engineers together worldwide and encourage others to recognize their hard work, dedication and involvement in making our home a better place to live.

For Global Day of the Engineer, DiscoverE conducted a survey with the objective of finding out why engineers decided to do the great work they do. Of the 15 engineering fields recognized, 24% chose a career in Civil Engineering, with Mechanical Engineering at a close second with 20%.

56% of participants made the decision to become an engineer between the ages of 15-18, being inspired by fathers (27%) and teachers (18%).

One of the most interesting questions asked in DiscoverE’s 2019 Global Day of the Engineer survey was: What Are the Most Daunting Global Challenges for Engineers in the Next 25 Years? With scoring between 1 to 10, Access to Clean Water and Sanitation took the top spot with a score of 7.75. Economical Clean Energy coming in second with a weighted score of 7.31, and Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructure coming in 3rd with a score of 6.23. https://www.youtube.com/embed/wMAMwDw6L0k?enablejsapi=1
