Happy Veterans Day!
In 1947, the Town of Lempster, New Hampshire, mounted a plaque dedicated to local WWII veterans. As time passed, the town learned of another veteran whose name had inadvertently been excluded from the plaque, and the plaque began to show its age.
The Lempster Board of Selectmen approached Avangrid Renewables’ Lempster Wind Farm crew about funding a replacement plaque. Our wind farm is the first modern, commercial-scale wind farm in the state, and features 12 wind turbines on privately-owned land. Since reaching commercial operation almost exactly 10 years ago, on November 10, 2008, the wind farm team has worked hard to build a lasting partnership with the small community, from hosting a 5K run on the wind farm property to supporting local causes like the Lempster Historical Society, the Goshen-Lempster Coop School and the Lempster Firefighters Association. Thanks to a combination of town funds and our community sponsorship funds, the town created a new plaque and held a re-dedication ceremony earlier this year in honor of all the local veterans, including the veteran whose name was missing from the old plaque.
Supporting past and present members of our military is an important responsibility that we take seriously year-round. More than 15 percent of the Avangrid Renewables field operations team are veterans, and the wind industry as a whole hires veterans at a rate that is 72 percent higher than the national average. In addition to their military service, we have long valued the skills and experience that these brave men and women bring to the workforce.
From the entire AVANGRID team, we share our gratitude for the sacrifices made by those who have served. Thank you for protecting our nation and thank you for your service.
